Good episode. Gunpoint was great, loved the humor in it. I pretty much did the same thing as Skippy with Peace Walker, I just looked up the ‘secret’ ending instead of grinding for days for it. I didn’t even realize that a certain character (not the one mentioned in the podcast) was a traitor the whole time.
Only thing I dislike with MGSV so far is the reduced codec system. Peace Walker had one too, but that made since given the hardware limitations. It’s going to be lonely only having only one-sided dialogue for the new codec system.
The one sided dialogue is my least favorite thing about PW/GW/V. Especially since Big Boss is such a fun character. His codecs with Paramedic in 3 were one of my favorite parts of that entire game. The obvious assumption is that Kiefer is expensive so he won’t do a lot of talking, and if that’s true I’m going to be super disappointed. Then again, it doesn’t seem like this game was strained for cash during development. How many licensed 80’s songs would they have to give up to get 20 more hours out of Kiefer?
I’m assuming that if it is true it’s a design decision rather than a budget one. Hopefully the developer build demos they’ve shown us so far only have one-sided codec dialogue for the sake of pacing and screen time, and the actual game has a full-fledged system.
I think they’ll have most of the conversations be from tapes, so you can listen to them while walking around Mother Base and whatnot. Might actually be a great system.

Whoops. didn’t see this reply till now.
I’ll still miss the contextual codec calls though. Like in any MGS game when you encounter something weird you could call up each person and receive different unique dialogue from each of them.
Would definitely down for a dedicate Metal Gear podshow for the period immediately after it’s release. Maybe one just general talk then a spoiler one later.

The reason Big Boss can’t translate Russian is because you try to remember a separate language after a coma.
